Abstract :
A hybrid continuum/kinetic Monte Carlo method for modelling surface diffusion is presented. A blending region which smoothly and consistently passes information (mass) from one description to the other is used to connect conventional continuum and atomistic models together. This approach allows for the co-existence of multiple length and time scales within a single simulation. The effectiveness of the hybrid model is demonstrated in a simple example.
