Abstract
Recent studies published in the literature have focused on reinforcing alumina with different carbides and nitrides. However, data about the potential use of mixed carbides is still scarce. This work reports some mechanical properties and the microstructure of alumina reinforced with (Ti, W)carbide.
a and (Ti, W)C powders were mixed and hot-pressed at 1650 °C. Specimens were characterized by Vickers’s microhardness (Hv), fracture toughness (Kc), X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy.
