Abstract :
The texture development of equal channel angular extrusion (ECAE) processed Al.5Cu alloy submitted to further ECAE or rolling is analyzed. Initial ultrafine-grained (UFG) or fine-grained (FG) materials obtained after ECAE are considered. Combining ECAE with rolling offers additional opportunities for texture control. In both samples, from 50 to 75% rolling reduction is sufficient to create rolling textures. Texture strength increases significantly up to 95% reduction and then decreases in both materials. The highest texture strengths are found for rolled FG samples. For UFG materials, further ECAE via route A or D create gradually weaker close to random textures. Thus simple shear activated by ECAE for some specific routes appears more effective for texture randomization than rolling. This may reflect some difference between ECAE and rolling in the mechanisms occurring during severe plastic deformation.
