Validation of an automated EBSD method to deduce the β-phase texture in Ti–6Al–4V with a colony-α microstructure

An automated method to determine the texture of the β-phase in Ti–6Al–4V using measured α-phase electron-backscatter-diffraction data (EBSD) was validated by comparing the deduced texture with the texture measured directly using X-ray diffraction. The deduced α-phase-variant frequency distribution revealed that all variants were not equally probable.
