Abstract
The effect of liquid ejection temperature (Tliq) during melt-spinning on the thermal stability and crystallization behavior of amorphous Ni59Zr20Ti16Si5−xSnx (x=0,3) alloys has been studied. Glass transition temperature (Tg) and crystallization onset temperature (Tx) of the amorphous Ni59Zr20Ti16Si5 alloy are not affected by the variation of Tliq. On the other hand, the amorphous Ni59Zr20Ti16Si2Sn3 alloy shows different behaviors. Tg is not dependent on Tliq but Tx shifts towards the lower temperature side with decreasing Tliq, resulting in a decrease of the supercooled liquid region (ΔTx=Tx−Tg). The effect of Tliq on the thermal properties can be understood by the presence of short-range order clusters, which is related to Ni–Zr atomic pairs in the liquid state.
