Abstract
Rapid solidification of a binary alloy is considered for conditions of strongly nonequilibrium transformation from the liquid phase to the solid phase. Following the assumption of absence of local equilibrium both at the solid–liquid interface and in the solute diffusion field around the interface, an analysis for the response functions (temperature, chemical composition, and solidification velocity) is given. A discussion of the outcomes predicted by the present model in comparison with available experimental data is presented.
