Abstract
The aim of the study is to investigate the evolution of transient stress in the specimen with multi-layer phase structure during quenching process by numerical simulation. This paper presents the finite element model (FEM) of axisymmetric specimen during quenching process and the results of numerical simulations. In this work, the morphologies of the quenched specimen were observed and the hardness was measured for building FEM. The residual stress field of the quenched specimen of steel 40Cr was measured. Then, it was simulated and compared with measured one to prove the effectiveness of the model built in this work. Based on the FEM mentioned above, the transient stress field of this specimen with multi-layer phase structure was simulated and discussed.
