Abstract :
A series of hot rolling experiments was conducted on a Ti–6Al–4V (numbers indicate wt.%) alloy by varying the rolling temperatures from 800 to 920 °C in both unidirectional and cross rolling methods, to investigate the effect of processing variables on the texture and mechanical properties. The cross rolling ratio was varied from 0.3 to 1.0 at 875 °C. The (0 0 0 2), ( 1   0   1 ¯   0 ) , and ( 1   0   1 ¯   1 ) pole figures of α phase of hot-rolled specimens were measured by reflection method up to 75° using Cu Kα radiation. The anisotropy of mechanical properties was closely related to the crystallographic texture. With the decrease of rolling temperature, in the unidirectional rolling, anisotropy in the yield strength decreased, which was explained by the evaluation of the orientation distribution function value and texture. In the case of cross rolling experiments, anisotropy was negligible and ND// ( 1   1   2 ¯   0 ) fiber texture was strongly developed as rolling temperature decreased. With the cross rolling ratio decreased from 1.0 to 0.3, the main texture components changed from those similar to fully cross rolled specimen to those similar to unidirectionally rolled ones and anisotropy was found to increase.
