Abstract :
In order to clarify the relationship between the glass structure and mechanical properties, splat-cooled and tilt-cast Zr–Cu–Al glassy alloys were studied. The glass structure difference was estimated considering thermal factors (glass-transition temperature, crystallization temperature, etc.) and the volume change from the as-cast state to fully relaxed state. The compositional dependence of the tensile strength and Charpy-impact energy is closely related to that of the glass-transition temperature and volume change. We also examined the Poissonʹs ratio to find out ductile glassy alloys. As a result, solvent(Zr)-enriched off-eutectic glassy alloys show rather high Poissonʹs ratios.
