Abstract :
The electronic structure and magnetic properties of several Heusler alloys and their thin films on a GaAs(0 0 1) substrate were investigated using density functional theory calculations. The alteration of the electronic structure and magnetic properties upon defect formation in bulk and surface is discussed.
