Remote atom probe field ion microscopy

Each of the normal stages of operation of the atom probe, i.e., specimen loading, field ion imaging, selection of the feature of interest for analysis, and atom probe analysis, have been examined to determine the feasibility of operating an atom probe over the Internet. Experiments have been performed that have demonstrated the feasibility of remotely monitoring and controlling a conventional atom probe field ion microscope and a three-dimensional atom probe.
