Abstract
This paper presents a study on deformation and failure characteristics of polycarbonate (PC), acrylonitrile–butadiene–styrene (ABS) and their blends under a constant impact tensile loading rate. The test results showed that blending PC with weaker ABS produced a tougher PC/ABS blend but it demonstrated higher amplitude of oscillation and immediately fractured after yielding. Scanning electron microscopy on the fracture surface revealed that such behavior might be induced by developing voids because of the weakness of the interface between PC and ABS.
