Abstract
The relationship between yield strength and plane strain fracture toughness in cast Al–7%Si–Mg alloy castings has been investigated by analyzing twenty datasets from the literature. The data representing the highest KIc for a given yield strength have been found to fall within an envelope, the top limit of which represents the fracture toughness potential of Al–7%Si–Mg alloy castings. Implications of the findings are discussed in the paper.
