Abstract :
Thermally induced variations in structural and mechanical properties measured for pure Sn prepared by normal cast, binary Sn-based alloys with Zn or Sb and/or Bi and their ternary alloys containing 1 wt.% Cu prepared by rapid solidification from the melt were studied. The parameters as the internal friction (Q−1), thermal diffusivity (Dth), the dynamic Youngʹs modulus (Y) and the diffusion coefficient (D) measured for the alloys treated at different temperatures showed anomalous variations not consistent with those expected for rapid solidified alloys. The anomally was explained on the basis of the surface activity of the elements added and the mode of their internal distribution which lead to alternating states of hardening and softening.
