Abstract :
Preliminary work on precipitation-strengthened alloys revealed a Pt–Al–Cr alloy with good mechanical properties and excellent oxidation resistance up to very high temperatures as starting point for further alloy development. A variety of ternary additions to the Pt–Al base are investigated to secure L12 structure of the hardening Pt3Al phase. Ni is in the course added for solid-solution strengthening. Minor additions of B further increase creep resistance and rupture time remarkably, owing to strengthening of the grain boundaries.
