Abstract :
In this research, channel angular deformation (CAD) is proposed as a substitute for the traditional direct extrusion. Careful investigations are carried out by the commercial finite element code, ABAQUS, to appraise the applicability of CAD as an alternative for direct extrusion. From the different CAD profiles being tested, simulations show especial geometries of CAD should be used to make the process a total enhancement of direct extrusion, however, other geometries also give relative improvements. The presence of reduction in area in addition to accumulation of shear strain is a unique characteristic of CAD. The latter is very important since it is the optimum component of strain in evolution of microstructures. Results show the distribution of equivalent and shear strains are to a lower or higher extent homogenized by implementation of CAD configurations. Considering the required force to perform the processes, not all the CAD configurations are more efficient than direct extrusion.
