Abstract :
This paper describes the concept of uranium targets of the Moscow meson factory, reasons for choosing the geometry and material (U3Si) of target as well as the shape of fuel elements. Results of neutronic computations, data on corrosion rates of design materials and measures for providing their compatibility are presented. The advantages of the chosen fuel composition as compared with others, design details and possible alternatives are discussed.
