Abstract
The mechanical behavior of TIMETAL-LCB titanium-based alloy in a metastable β-condition with different β-grain size and crystallographic texture was studied at varying tensile strain rates (3.2×10−5 s−1–3.6×10−1 s−1) at room temperature. A principal role of crystallographic texture in the mode of plastic flow was established. It was found that the presence of a sharp axial (110)β-texture caused similar mechanical behavior of both fine- and coarse-grained microstructures for all strain rates whereas a random texture in the coarse-grained material led to significant localization of the plastic flow, which became more pronounced at lower strain rates and eventually resulted in cleavage along slip planes and early failure.
