Abstract :
Al2O3 ceramic was successfully joined by using preceramic polymer as matrix, B4C and glass powders as additives. The effect of the bonding temperature on the strength of the joints and the bonding mechanism were investigated. The maximum shear strength of the joints is 14.0 MPa when heat-treated at 1000 °C for 2 h in a N2 flux without applying any pressure. The bonding layer with a thickness of about 28 μm is uniform and basically dense. It is found that high bonding temperature increases the densification and crystallinity of the interlayers, which is beneficial to elevate the joints strength. Moreover, the B4C and the SiO2 powder additives contribute to the densification of the interlayer and the bonding at the interfaces.
