Abstract :
A Silicon Vertex Detector (SVD) has been commissioned for the CLEO II experiment at Cornell Electron Storage Ring (CESR). The SVD is a three layer tracker using double-sided AC coupled silicon detectors. Detectors are mounted on fiber composite support and read out at the ends, removing all electronics from the tracking volume. CAMEX and JAMEX chips are used to read out 26 208 channels. The condition of detectors and electronics is monitored by a slow control system. A moving shields system provides extra protection from the synchrotron radiation. We present an overview of the design, construction and operation of the SVD.
