A new method for isomer lifetime measurement

We report on the application of a new multi-parameter data acquisition system to lifetime measurement of isomers in nuclear cascades. Decay curves obtained with the new system are largely free of distortion that are often present in results obtained by conventional methods. Minimal electronics are required and data acquisition times are much shorter with the new method, especially for isomers with longer lifetimes. Virtues of this method are demonstrated by studying the decay of the 9 μs isomer of 67Zn at 93-keV excitation energy.
