A parameter-free self-organizing map for the analysis of pp-reactions at COSY

The Kohonen Algorithm was extended by (a) a coupling between node and input space based upon gravitational principles and (b) a controlling mechanism based upon two-point correlation functions. The extended algorithm avoids optimization of the learning rate and neighbourhood parameters and was successfully applied to off-line tasks like invariant mass analysis, ΔE particle discrimination and background suppression.
