Focusing of neutrons and 3He atomic beams with hexapole magnets

The focusing properties of hexapole magnets were investigated with a neutron beam using a two-dimensional position-sensitive detector. The results were analysed with the help of computer simulations and values for the dipole and the hexapole field component were determined. Contributions of higher-order multipoles were detected and estimated.
