A new application of 3He and 10BF3 proportional counters in a polythene moderator

A detailed examination of the pulse-height spectra from 3He and 10BF3 proportional counters, placed inside a polythene moderator, and irradiated by neutrons, has led to the discovery of a “neutron event free-energy window”. It has been shown that this window can be used for the registration of gamma radiation without disturbing the registration of neutrons. A new method for measuring the ambient dose equivalent in mixed neutron-gamma radiation fields has been proposed.
