Abstract :
With Ni addition, abundant long period stacking ordered (LPSO) phase appeared in as-cast Mg–Gd–Zn–Ni alloys. Ni not only participated in the formation of LPSO phase itself but also stimulated Zn to take part in. Simultaneously, the mechanical properties of the Ni added alloys, especially the ductility, were enhanced substantially.
