Advances in photodetectors

Photodetectors in modern high-energy physics detectors are used in trackers, calorimeters and Cherenkov counters. In recent years there have been important innovations and advances in the methods and techniques of photodetection. In this paper some of the highlights of this progress will be summarized in the context of applications in B-detectors.
