Abstract :
This paper presents a mathematical model and corresponding computer code for a numerical simulation of internal supersonic jet targets generation for storage rings. The model is based on the full time-dependent system of Navier–Stokes equations for multicomponent gas mixtures. Comparison of the experimental data and the results of calculations for different nozzle geometries and in a wide range of stagnation temperatures and pressures reveals that the developed code provides the realistic description of the gas flows in the nozzle and in a free supersonic jet. The great potentialities of the using of a new technique (V.L. Varentsov, D.R. Hansevarov, Nucl. Instr. and Meth. A 317 (1992) 1) for a generation of internal molecular and atomic beam targets from a wide variety of elements are demonstrated by means of computations.
