Characteristics of the cyclotron beam in the longitudinal phase space

The determination of particle beam emittance and density distribution in the longitudinal phase-space projection is discussed and the experimental results are compared with the Gaussian distribution. Analysis of the data clearly shows the decomposition of the beam into three components. The orientation of the phase ellipse indicates a marginal improvement in the time resolution with the energy analysis of the beam. The effect of various machine parameters on the time structure is studied and stability limits of some of the parameters are determined experimentally.
