Abstract :
The problem of storage and compression of intense bunches of heavy ions in the HIDIF driver accelerator is studied by means of a computer simulation with the particle-in-cell code PATRIC. It is shown that the requirements from final focusing (6 ns pulse length and Δp/p=1%) can be reconciled with the linac output longitudinal emittance by careful optimization of the transfer into the barrier buckets.
