Abstract :
Motivated by the energy upgrade of LEP we have constructed a silicon strip detector for a new very forward tracker for the DELPHI experiment at CERN. This so-called ministrip detector was installed in 1996 during the regular LEP shutdown period. An overview of the construction with special emphasis on the assembly procedure of the individual modules is given. Due to space limitations, the readout electronics was placed directly on the detectors. We also had to develop a new technique for the detector assembly. This paper describes the experiences made during one year of LEP2 operation and the excellent performance achieved.
