Abstract
An end-window gas proportional detector with a triangular loop anode is designed to count X-ray and gamma radiation of energy 6–40 keV mainly for the nuclear gamma-resonance spectroscopy. It offers as good energy resolution (FWHM 10–12% at 14.4 keV; ≅17% at 6.4 keV) and spectral purity (peak/background ≈20−30) as coaxial proportional counters, and window area (diameter 50–60 mm) as large as usual NGRS scintillation detectors. The detector will allow the use of lower activity gamma sources and improve the speed and accuracy of the measurements.
