  • Abstract
The presence of anomalous isotope effects has been put in evidence by A.G. Drentje some years ago and this effect has been studied as a particular case of ion cooling, like the gas mixing effect, but isotopic gases have not yet been used so extensively as mixers as 16O and 4He. The increase of xenon current of the electron cyclotron resonance (ECR) ion source SERSE when 18O is used as mixer in place of 16O was observed and more systematic tests with krypton and different other mixers from mass number A=15–22 gave a clear evidence of the effectiveness of AIE. A review of these tests is briefly outlined.
