Abstract :
In 1993, the NA44 Collaboration built a Threshold Imaging Cherenkov detector (TIC) as part of an upgrade program for the 158 A·GeV lead beam at the CERN SPS. The device was successfully operated from 1994 to 1996, and allowed track-by-track identification of up to five particles in the 3–8 GeV/c range. In this paper, we review published physics results of NA44 that rely on the high π/K-separation power of the TIC.
