The aerogel radiator of the HERMES RICH: on behalf of the HERMES collaboration

Using aerogel as a RICH radiator is a novel technique requiring a detailed understanding of its optical properties. A comprehensive series of measurements aimed at characterizing light propagation in HERMES RICH aerogel is presented and contributions to the ring resolution are discussed.
