Abstract :
The CLIO infrared free electron laser (FEL) electron transport system has been optimized for FEL operation above 16 μm which required electron energies below 32 MeV. Achromaticity has been optimized at the undulator entrance. Measurements confirm the optimization procedure. At lower energies, a magnetic pulse compression effect leads to an enhancement of the peak current.
