Abstract :
The 1999 run of Fermilab E871 (HyperCP) recorded 80 Terabytes of data on 19,000 8 mm tapes with a typical trigger rate near 100 kHz. The readout electronics digitized data from 21,000 input channels with a fixed deadtime of 1.7 μs resulting in a typical livetime of 80%. The typical instantaneous rate of data generated by the HyperCP spectrometer was 36 MB/s. These data were written to tape at a sustained rate of 27 MB/s.
