Abstract
Optically detected magnetic resonance techniques are the tools of choice for a structure-sensitive analysis of the defects involved in the scintillation processes of scintillators and the scintillation process itself. A few examples of structure-sensitive studies of the scintillation processes in halide scintillators are discussed. In BaF2, for instance, the structure of oxygen-vacancy complexes affecting the performance of this scintillator could be analysed. With respect to Na- or Tl-doped CsI scintillators, magnetic resonance techniques allowed to gain information on the luminescence centres and the scintillation process.
