Abstract
A Radio Frequency Quadrupole (RFQ) linac has been designed for the Radioactive Ion Beam (RIB) facility being built at the Variable Energy Cyclotron Centre (VECC), Kolkata, India. Low-energy RIBs of 1.0 keV/u and q/A ⩾1/16 will be accelerated to about 86 keV/u in a 35 MHz, 3.2 m long structure. A half-scale model of the RFQ has been fabricated and cold-model RF-tests confirm the design parameters. The beam dynamics and RF-structure design of the RFQ along with the results of the cold model tests are presented.
