Vertex detector as a physics tool for TESLA

A five-layer pixel vertex detector is foreseen as the innermost part of the planned electron positron linear collider TESLA detector. In combination with a high-performance vertex algorithm (ZVTOP) this detector is an ideal tool for heavy flavour identification. Recent results for charm and beauty flavour tagging and charge identification are presented. Also tagging performance for different detector configurations and physics examples is shown.
