Recent results from R&D towards a vertex detector at the International Linear Collider

The linear collider flavour identification (LCFI) collaboration is performing an R&D program to develop a vertex detector for the International Linear Collider (ILC). Test results obtained with the first generation of sensors and their dedicated readout ASIC are reported. Plans for the second generation devices and the ISIS concept for the detector sensors are presented.
