Abstract :
A helium jet coupled Isotope Separator On Line (ISOL) facility has been designed and developed at Variable Energy Cyclotron Centre (VECC), Kolkata, for the study of nuclei away from the line of β-stability. The 6.2 m long Quadrupole-Quadrupole-Dipole (QQD) system has been designed for a dispersion of 2.52 m for 100% rigidity change. A typical FWHM mass resolving power of around 900 has been measured in high temperature surface ionisation mode. The design and development of the facility and the first test experiment will be reported in this article.
