  • Abstract
    A technique for treatment of electron trajectories in Monte Carlo simulations of the process of gas multiplication in cylindrical proportional counters is presented. This technique takes advantage of the cylindrical symmetry of proportional counters and largely reduces the computational time needed for simulations. The results obtained with a Monte Carlo code which uses this technique are compared with those obtained from numerical solution of the Boltzmann equation, demonstrating the feasibility of the proposed approach. The technique is directly applicable when the single-electron response of cylindrical proportional counters is to be determined by means of Monte Carlo simulations.
