Abstract :
The CALICE collaboration develops calorimetric techniques for use at a future Linear Collider. The physics programme at this collider will require excellent jet energy resolution. The technique of Particle Flow has the capability to meet these goals. This technique requires detectors of very high granularity both transverse and longitudinally along the shower development axis.
a brief overview of CALICE activities, this paper describes the construction, operation and performance of an ECAL detector prototype based on tungsten absorber and silicon active layers. Future plans for this technology are also discussed.
