Abstract
The Muon to Electron and Gamma (MEG) experiment aims to measure the lepton flavour violating decay μ+→e+γ with a sensitivity ∼10–13 in order to probe new physics beyond the standard model. One of the most important part of the experimental setup is the new positron spectrometer built at the Paul Scherrer Institute. The positron spectrometer consists of a superconducting solenoidal magnet with a highly graded field, a very low-mass drift chamber system and a precise time measuring system. The layout and the parameters of the positron spectrometer are described.
