Abstract
Oilfields were classified on the basis of sulfur content and gravity of oil into two groups with different geodynamic scenarios. The first one includes fields gravitating to active continental margins and collision belts. The second one encompasses oil accumulations formed over passive continental margins and, possibly, in the intracontinental areas. In studying a specific oil and gas basin, this will enable the evaluation of the mixing extent between different oil genetic types within individual fields and, therefore, the identification of different regions within the poorly studied areas using sulfur content and gravity of oil.
