Abstract :
Time lapse seismic data can help to monitor pressure and fluid saturation changes in the reservoir, and using 4D data to constrain reservoir models through assisted history matching techniques has recently become a subject of great interest. However, the match of data varying in space and time can be difficult to obtain. In this paper, we propose a new local parameterization technique adapted to 4D seismic data in order to improve the efficiency of the history matching process. It is based on the local perturbation of the petrophysical properties in regions identified by an analysis of the highest matching residuals. A first step consists in using streamlines to identify regions which should influence the dynamic behavior in the areas where 4D seismic data are badly reproduced. Then, a smooth perturbation of the mean value is estimated for each petrophysical property to improve the match. It is based on the kriging of the region average values considered as history matching parameters. This approach has been successfully applied on a 3D synthetic case for history matching production and saturation data derived from 4D seismic by constraining the non stationary permeability distribution.
