Abstract :
Summary
ournal for Nature Conservation” (JNC) succeeds the German journal “Zeitschrift für Ökologie und Naturschutz” founded in 1990 and excellently guided by Prof. Dr. Harald Plachter (Phillips University Marburg) as Editor-in-Chief. For practical reasons Urban & Fischer decided to transfer the journal into an entirely English medium journal: its first issue, you have in your hands.
s the English language and an improved design, there is a new editorial team – with Prof. Plachter on board – and some shifts in the journalʹs scope. We intend to keep JNC as a scientific journal focusing on methods and techniques used in nature conservation, which is our core area. We want to offer an international and interdisciplinary forum for the communication of modern approaches to nature conservation and its role in a societal setting. We aim to provide both scientists and practitioners in conservation theory, policy and management with comprehensive and applicable information.
is reason the JNC is published in affiliation with the ECNC (European Centre for Nature Conservation, based in Tilburg), a well consolidated foundation whose mission is to bridge science and policy in this challenging field. We benefit from their expertise and broad network of partners throughout Europe. JNC is by no means restricted to Europe; we cover all continents, but our journal will have “European flavour”, as even science has its particular culture in different parts of the world.
te all our colleagues that have something to tell in applied ecology, restoration ecology, ecological modelling, ecological economics, conservation biology, wildlife management, environmental and spatial planning, rural development, sociology and environmental education to accept JNC as a valuable option to report to the research and conservation community. Nature conservation is already a concern of the broader society, but how to implement it is still a challenge for scientists and practitioners. We would feel fully satisfied if JNC can contribute to the exchange of experience and good science among all of us.
