Abstract
In this work, the influence of the velocity field in the transport of small bubbles and its effect on macroscopic parameters such as the void fraction is studied. A population balance equation for describing the evolution of the bubbles is solved numerically and the evolution of the void fraction is studied for different initial bubble distributions. It is observed that the dispersion effect can be neglected in the case of a monodispersed distribution, but in the general case this term can be quite important controlling the evolution of the shape of the void fraction.
