Abstract :
A study of the accuracy and statistical characteristics of the gelatin pendulum current meter in comparison with three types of conventional current meters was carried out under realistic field conditions. The statistical analysis of the data shows that current speeds obtained with pendulums are quite accurate with low scatter levels (rms = 0.6 cm·s−1). Also average pendulum directions were found to be accurate but to suffer from relatively large scatter levels (rms = 11 deg).
