Abstract :
Ten regional cross-sections were prepared covering the central and southern Bolivian fold belt (Fig. 1). Surface geology, seismic lines, satellite imagery, and wildcats were used in the preparation of the structural profiles. Based on geometrical and geological features, two tectonic domains were distinguished: deep-detached, gentle anticlines cored in lower Paleozoic rocks conform the Andean domain, while shallow-detached, tight anticlines cored in upper Paleozoic to Tertiary strata integrate the Sub-Andean domain. The cross-sections were tri-dimensionally placed, evidencing the control of the pre-Silurian paleotopography over subsequent deposition, influencing as well the shape and evolution of the fold-and-thrust belt during the Cenozoic diastrophism.
